Lesson Details
Basic Lessons - Day One
Lesson One - Introduction to Kite Control
Learn rigging and de-rigging, line management,
And basic flying skills using a 2-line stunt kite or 2/4 line bladder kite.
Practice flying in and out of the power zone,
launching and landing, harness use, and general
safety procedures.
Lesson Two - Transition Into the Water
Learn to fly the kite in a forward motion while
body-dragging through the water. Practice launching
and landing the kite from the water using a
water-launchable kite.
Lesson Three - Waterstarting
You will be instructed on board and kite positioning
prior to waterstarting. Practice powering up the kite
while mounting the board. You will also be instructed
in self rescue.
Lessons 1, 2, and 3 are taught together and take approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete.
Note: Mastery of the first three lessons varies greatly in time with each individual, and instruction will be tailored to your personal progress.
Cost: $350 for a half day session. $250 each, for 2 students (lesson sessions are extended & modified to meet individual needs)
Price includes a Mongani Sky Pirates T-shirt and a Kite Boarding magazine.
Advanced Techniques - Day Two and Beyond
Do not expect to be doing this in the first 2 days.
With the basic techniques mastered from the first three lessons, you can go forward to learn some of the advanced techniques. This includes advanced board use. Advanced power zone kite positioning. Advanced harness use. Flight & landing, while standing & sailing forward. And, navigating through cross winds & coming back to position, across the wind.
Cost: $90 per hour. 2 hour Minimum, for advanced sessions.
Minors are welcome to participate in our instruction program. Please provide a signed & dated release from a parent or guardian.
All lessons are taught as a one-on-one session.
Group training seminars & extreme KiteSurfing demonstrations may be arranged, on request.

Safety is always the 1st priority. Water and weather conditions often change without warning and I will observe all conditions & instructions, to minimize ALL risks. I understand & agree that Mongani-Sky-Pirates reserves the right to refuse participation or to modify our general lesson plans, for any student or participant in our training and/or events, due to our evaluation of physical and/or mental state.
Lesson price covers instruction, all equipment use & unintentional damage insurance. We also provide non-alchoholic refreshments.
Although Mongani Sky Pirates provides all your basic needs in equipment and refreshments, students, observers & participants should bring any special needs items and snacks.
Also, we STRONGLY recommend that everyone bring appropriate water footwear, sunscreen, headwear and bodywear, for protection from the elements.
