Obtain the following videos, and view each several times: How To Rip (part 1), and Boost (vol 1 & 2). And, acquire a trainer kite, such as an Airush or Slingshot. Fly it for at least 5 to 10 hours. Learn where your power zones are, as well as the "neutral" overhead zone. Practice big and small figure 8's, up and down 'U' patterns, as well as left to right and right to left motions. Continue practicing with the trainer kite until these motions are easy and natural. (contact me, I'll help you find current suppliers)
While unhooked from your harness, learn to take twists out of your lines by rotating your body in the necessary direction. With the harness, practice flying the trainer kite one-handed and practice switching hands. This will help your kite-flying skills tremendously.
Remember SAFETY 1st!
These kites can gain a great deal of power, even in low to moderate winds.
Use extreme caution around other people and all obstacles.
Apply your best judgement and common sense at all times!

The following article was posted in a recent issue of "Kiteboarding" magazine by Mr. Paul Menta. Paul is a Master Intructor for the Professional Air Sports Association. Mongani-Sky-Pirates would like to thank Mr. Menta for his insight and dedication to our sport.
Why take lessons? By Paul Menta, Master Instructor, PASA
So your woundering, why should you shell out the money for lessons? There are plenty of reasons. Here are the top seven.
1.Don't hurt yourself or others. Qualified instructors have developed lessons that
will guarantee a positive, injury-free experience.
2.Save money. It's often more expensive to learn on your own. Why trash your equipment? You can use the schools kites, boards, bars, etc.
3.Knock the learning curve in half. Instructors show students safe shortcuts and get riders up-to speed more efficiently.
4.Tap into the experience. Most schools have worked with thousands of students and can easily assess and address bad technique to set you on the right track.
5.Get educated about equipment. Schools are a great place to learn about the multitude of gear options available and which are best suited to you.
6.Score a dicount. Many schools have deals set up with shops and manufacturers. That way, you will know you are getting a fair price.
7.Enjoy a positive experience. You will have fun and learn in a safe environment.
